REAL SOLUTIONS
A JUST TRANSITION TO DISTRIBUTED, COMMUNITY OWNED, 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR ALL
HONOR THE EARTH
PROTECT THE SACRED
Life and Creation are sacred, and each living being intrinsically valuable. To honor the earth and protect life, investments in fossil fuel extraction and infrastructure, false solutions like dirty hydrogen and Carbon Capture or accounting gimmicks like carbon credit markets and offsets that prolong our dependence on fossil fuels must end now. Actual emissions reductions is the only barometer that counts.
ENERGY DEMOCRACY &
REGENERATIVE ECONOMIES
An alternative energy future involves a new energy paradigm: where energy is not simply a commodity, but a shared economic resource of our communities; where energy development does not destroy our ecosystem, but respects it; where energy is not an amplifier of injustice, but a resource for equity and empowerment. Community ownership and distributed generation means equity, reliability and security for communities, not corporations.
LAND CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION
Conservation and Indigenous land management practices increase carbon storage and avoid greenhouse gas emissions. Forest and land conservation, greening cities, wetland restoration, re-wilding, eliminating intensive factory farming of animals, and crop management practices that increase carbon in agricultural soils are critical to biodiversity and carbon sequestration. The full lifecycle of exploitive agribusiness land practices accounts for a third of global emissions.
100% SOLAR, WIND & BATTERY STORAGE
A landmark study proves that the world's energy needs can be met using 100% clean, renewable energy sources - no nuclear or fossil-fueled hydrogen. Their analysis of US energy needs and capacity, calculated on a state-by-state basis, confirms that a transition to renewable energy in New Mexico will result in 68.2% lower annual energy costs for New Mexicans (from $17.2 down to $5.5 billion per year), and reduce annual social costs (energy plus health plus climate costs) by about 90% (from $55 down to $5.5 billion per year), saving about 280 lives annually from air pollution and eliminating about 61 million tonnes-CO2-equivalent per year in climate-affecting emissions beyond the energy cost savings. The transition to renewables is also estimated to create a net increase of 23,500 more long-term, full-time jobs in New Mexico.
LEGISLATION, REGULATION & ENFORCEMENT ACTION
Market based solutions will lead us nowhere. The science demands that we keep fossil fuels in the ground NOW, invest massively in clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and mandate an immediate change to destructive industry and land management practices. None of that is possible until and unless world governments recognize that a livable future is a human right, and begin creating and enforcing laws that value life over profit. Let's start here in New Mexico!
